Rotary Club recognises SA Police in citation ceremony

Rotary District 9510 clubs and members in South Australia will today formally recognise the efforts of all Officers of SAPOL for their efforts and leadership through the nation’s bushfires and COVID-19.

For the last 42 years, the Rotary Club of Unley has facilitated the presentation of the South Australian Police Officer of the Year Award in liaison with SAPOL. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the 2020 Award has been unable to be completed successfully. Instead, Rotary District 9510, will present SAPOL with a citation, recognising SAPOL’s outstanding contributions.

Included in the citation, “Rotary District 9510 clubs and members in South Australia, acknowledge the outstanding contribution all members of South Australia Police have made to this State’s community during the horrific bushfires of 2019/2020 and the current COVID-19 pandemic”.

In addition, “The Rotary Citation 2020 is presented with the greatest respect and thanks to all members of South Australia Police, those working behind the scenes, and those on the front line, putting themselves at risk to safeguard and protect the health and safety of the people of South Australia”.

The presentation of the citation will be given by Mr David Jones, District Governor, Rotary District 9510 with other Rotary members including the President of the Rotary Club, Unley in attendance. Commissioner Grant Stevens will formally accept and respond to the Citation.

Speaking on SAPOL’s response to COVID-19, Commissioner Stevens said, “I’m personally grateful an extremely proud of the way we’re going about our job and the role we’re playing in fighting COVID-19”.

Commissioner Stevens further commented, ” I thank Rotary District 9510 and the Rotary Club of Unley for this citation, which promotes the human face of policing. I think staff will be touched by this generous acknowledgement in recognising the combined team effort and not the individual”.
