Rug up and enjoy: Festival of W final weekend

Don your favourite beanie and coat, and head into the Victory Memorial Gardens to celebrate the final weekend of the Festival of W.

It’s your last chance to take a spin on the pop-up outdoor ice rink, sample some delicious sweet and savoury winter warmers, and discover the large-scale light and sound installations that have been delighting festival goers over the last two weeks.

LIGHT UP: Airship Orchestra

The festival will end in style on Sunday 17 July with a live ice carving demonstration, live music, and a section of Baylis Street outside the Civic Centre transforming into a street food market, with a variety of delicious food perfect for Sunday lunch or as a tasty treat.

Council’s Events Officer Emma Corbett encourages everyone to come out and enjoy the weekend before school starts again next week.

“Festival of W has been a great success and we’re looking forward to another fun weekend with lots of enticing food on Sunday,” Ms Corbett said.

“Sunday’s live ice carving will be fascinating to watch and see completed, and we’ll have everything within close walking distance, so you can grab something warm for lunch, listen to the live music, and either take a spin on the ice rink or just soak up the atmosphere of the day.

FUN AND GAMES: Chromatica + Oculus

“Now is also a great time to sneak in a hug with one of the colourful Airship Orchestra characters which have melted so many hearts since they arrived on the steps of the Civic Centre.

“Anyone who hasn’t skated on the ice rink or who wants to go one last time, we encourage pre-booking your tickets to avoid missing out.”

SMILES ALL ROUND: Spin on the pop-up outdoor ice rink

The events on Sunday will begin at 11am and finish at 3pm in the Victory Memorial Gardens. Local indie pop guitar band Frostbite will perform between 12pm and 1pm.
