SA Police (SAPOL) have been trialing the issue of electronic expiation notices known as eTickets since late 2019 with a positive response from the police and public. This capability will now be rolled out in a phased approach to all frontline police commencing Tuesday 16 June 2020.
eTickets can be issued for all expiable offences and cautions, including for traffic, controlled substances, liquor licencing, public transport and environmental protection.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Dickson explains the benefits of the new technology, “eTicketing will be more timely, reduce errors and provide improved access for the public” he said.
“eTickets will eventually supersede handwritten paper notices and provide members of the public with the option of receiving an expiation notice either by email, post or print. However, there is still the option to elect to receive a handwritten expiation notice if preferred and there may still be instances where it will be necessary to issue a handwritten notice”.
If you are informed by police you will be receiving an expiation notice or caution, and choose to nominate an email address, the expiation notice or caution will be sent to you electronically.
Payment of the notice will still be made online through SAPOL’s epay system via the police website (https://www.bpoint.com.au/pay/sapolice). “This rollout will better streamline the expiation process making it more efficient and timely,” said Minister for Police Corey Wingard.
“As technology evolves so too must the way in which we operate and this is a great example of keeping up with the current advancements.”
