SA Police welcome 24 new Probationary Constables today

A graduation ceremony will today welcome 24 Probationary Constables to the South Australia Police. Course 28 features 13 men and 11 women, ranging in age from 20 to 42, and like many who join the police, they bring with them a diverse range of past experiences.

Following a 12-month intensive training course at the SA Police Academy, they will now undertake a 16 to 18-month probationary period that aims to build on the skills that they have developed and will provide valuable in-field experience.

At the academy, they have had lessons in law, investigations and procedure combined with operational safety, firearms and basic driver training.

Among today’s graduation class are Georgina Mastin and Jordan Edson who have brought varying skills and experience to the job.

Probationary Constable Mastin, originally from England, moved to Australia in 2005 and was previously employed as a restaurant manager prior to joining SA Police. She has a strong background as a singer and continues to perform outside of policing.

Keen to work on the criminal investigation aspect of policing, she said she applied to join the police because of the opportunity to make a difference in the community.

“I am very excited about graduating today. I have had family fly out from the UK to be here for me. I am so happy”, she said.

Probationary Constable Mastin will start her policing career posted to Adelaide’s Northern Suburbs and will work towards her long term goal of joining the Criminal Investigation Branch.

Her fellow graduate, Jordan Edson is a married father of two and has been working towards his long term goal of joining the police through a different career path.

Probationary Constable Edson began his journey into policing in 2015, where he started as a Protective Security Officer. He said it was a long but worthwhile experience and is looking forward to a long steady career with SA Police as a sworn officer.

Probationary Constable Edson who will start his career in Adelaide’s Western District said, “I have always enjoyed instructing and hope to become a field tutor, working towards being a patrol team supervisor in the future.”

SA Police are always recruiting, and offer more than 40 career options – including working as a police officer, protective security officer, community constable and in administration or support roles. If you are interested in join our team visit the website: https://www.police.sa.gov.au/join-us
