SA schools encouraged to stand united against bullying and violence

South Australian schools are encouraged to say “no way” to bullying by signing up for the ninth National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence this Friday 15 March 2019.

The National Day of Action provides schools with the chance to focus on bullying prevention and the role that we can all play to create safer communities for children and young people.

In the past, SA schools have marked the day by creating artwork and performances, joining with parents and families for community events, and holding special assemblies.

Schools that register to take part have access to a range of new and thought-provoking classroom materials to help make the day a success.

“The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence is a great opportunity for schools to stand united and make a strong public commitment that bullying is unacceptable in their school community,” said Education Minister John Gardner.

“We know that schools that have been involved in the National Day of Action over time report better bullying prevention outcomes for children, and I strongly encourage schools to register and take part next week.

“The theme for 2019 is ‘Take Action every day’. The day is about celebrating and promoting the actions we take every day to take a stand against bullying”.

The South Australian Department for Education is currently finalising work on its new bullying prevention strategy that will be introduced later in 2019.

The new strategy has been informed by school-based pilot projects conducted last year and a series of public engagement activities including a conference, YourSAy survey, workshops and round-tables involving more than 900 subject-matter experts, educators, professionals, parents, children and young people.
