Labor is strengthening access to safe abortion care across Victoria – giving women more choice, closer to home.
Minister for Health Ingrid Stitt today announced the roll out of new ultrasound equipment at Victoria’s 20 Sexual and Reproductive Health Hubs.
Clinicians typically require a scan to confirm early pregnancy.
But accessing imaging can be costly, time-consuming and difficult, particularly in regional Victoria – leaving women to face weeks of delays.
This can mean they are outside the nine-week window for medical abortion, leaving surgical options as their only alternative.
With new portable, point‑of‑care ultrasound equipment, Hub clinicians can confirm early pregnancy.
It means more Victorian women can now access care sooner, at no cost and closer to home.
The equipment and clinician training are backed by a $480,000 Carroll Labor Government investment.
The 20 Sexual and Reproductive Health Hubs are located right across the state, including 12 in regional Victoria.
Labor will always support the dignity and freedom of Victorian women and the right to access safe abortion.
It was Labor who decriminalised abortion in Victoria, established safe access zones outside clinics and has made sexual and reproductive healthcare more accessible across the public health system.
This November, Victorians have a choice.
A choice between the dignity and rights of Victorian women – protected by a re-elected Carroll Labor Government.
Or a Liberal One Nation Coalition who plans to Americanise Victoria’s health system – a move that will set Victoria back decades.
