Santa’s Boulevard this weekend

Blue Lake Sports Park will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland for the 2020 NF McDonnell and Sons Santa’s Boulevard drive through Christmas display, to be held on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November 2020 between 7:00pm and 10:00pm.

The event replaces the annual Christmas Parade due to COVID-19 restrictions in 2020 and will feature a sea of twinkling lights, decorations, Christmas music and 15 static floats, including Santa to get people into the festive spirit.

Volunteers revamped the NF McDonnell & Sons ‘Timber in Toy Town’ float with a focus on illuminating pine trees and brightly wrapped gifts.

“The float represents timber and includes pine trees, trimmings and Christmas trees which will all be lit up,” City of Mount Gambier Community Events Team Leader Denise Richardson said.

“In total the volunteers spent between 500 to 600 hours preparing all the floats for the event, which equates to about $7,000 dollars Council saved in labour costs alone.”

Santa’s Boulevard will include 15 floats: The Nutcracker, Teddy Bears Picnic, Mayor’s Christmas Appeal Star, Timmy the Express Train, Christmas Stocking, Pirates Rrr Us, Hansel & Gretel, Bill the Steam Shovel, T’was the Night before Xmas, Timber in Toy Town, Parade Queen float, Christmas Tree, Father Christmas (supplied by Mount Gambier Rotary West Club) and Humpty Dumpty (supplied by Lakes Rotary Club).

The community is encouraged to view the Christmas display from the comfort of their own vehicle.

Please stay in your car, dim your lights and follow the line of traffic through the Blue Lake Sports Park from the Dohle Road entry through to the exit on Jubilee Hwy East.
