June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, a Bowel Cancer Australia initiative to raise awareness of Australia’s second deadliest cancer and raise funds for the leading community-funded charity dedicated to prevention, early diagnosis, research, quality treatment and the best care for everyone affected by bowel cancer.

· Bowel cancer claims the lives of 103 Australians every week

· Once thought of as an older person’s disease, rates are on the rise in under 50s

· Bowel cancer is now the most common cause of cancer death in those aged 25-29

· Every day in Australia, more than 40 people receive a bowel cancer diagnosis

· 1 in 13 Australians will be diagnosed with bowel cancer in their lifetime

· 98% of cases can be successfully treated if detected early, but less than 50% are
