School students engaged in sustainability projects

The Holloways Beach Environmental Education Centre has secured $30,000 in Council funding over three years for its Gifted Global Green program.

The program encourages students to apply science and undertake projects to tackle environmental and sustainability issues that are relevant to local schools and the community.

Previously known as the Science and Sustainability Student Enrichment Program, the Gifted Global Green provides educational opportunities for Year 5 students, pairing them with industry mentors to develop local sustainability projects.

The program acknowledges the contribution and the importance of youth in the solving the current and future sustainability issues of the region.

Council today endorsed a three-year $10,000 per annum funding agreement for the program, which includes an additional $1,000 each year for presentation and celebration events.
