Search and rescue, Coleman River

Far North Queensland police are co-ordinating a search and rescue operation for a man, woman and child reported missing near Coleman River, south of Pormpuraaw.

The 23-year-old man, 23-year-old woman and 2-year-old girl left Pormpuraaw in a vehicle headed for Kowanyama at approximately 2pm on Friday May 20.

At approximately 1pm today (Saturday May 21) their vehicle was located by a member of the public, abandoned and bogged south of the Coleman River.

It is believed they may have left the vehicle on foot in search of assistance.

They were reported missing at approximately 7pm tonight, with a search and rescue operation immediately commenced.

Local police are currently conducting a foot search, with Queensland Government Air Helicopter and fixed wing aerial searches to be made of the area.

The man, woman and child are described as First Nations, with brown hair and eyes. The 23-year-old man is approximately 185cm tall with a proportionate build, while the 23-year-old woman is approximately 169cm tall with a slim build.

Police are appealing to anyone in the Pormpuraaw and Kowanyama communities who may have information regarding the whereabouts of the man, woman and child to urgently contact police.
