Search underway for Sydney man missing in Tweed region

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a Sydney man missing in the Tweed/Byron area.

Stephen Laybutt, aged 46, was last seen about 9pm on Friday evening (12 January 2023) at a home in Casuarina.

Stephen, from Elizabeth Bay, had travelled to Casuarina earlier that day to visit friends.

When he couldn’t be located or contacted on Saturday morning, he was reported missing to police.

Following inquiries by officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District, Stephen’s vehicle – a silver Mercedes – was located about 11.30am yesterday (Saturday 13 January 2024) at shops in Cabarita.

Police have conducted extensive patrols of the area, but he hasn’t been located and concerns are held for his welfare.

Stephen is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall, of medium build, with balding dark hair, unshaven and has a Ying and Yang tattoo on his right calf.

He was last seen wearing a light-coloured blue/grey t-shirt, knee length blue patterned board shorts and thongs.
