SEC stands for ‘Surging Electricity Costs’

Liberal Party Victoria

The Allan Government’s latest stunt on the State Electricity Commission (SEC) will do nothing to lower electricity prices for Victorians.

Today, Minister for Energy, Lily D’Ambrosio, announced that Labor intends to enshrine SEC Victoria Pty Ltd in the state Constitution. It’s a con.

Ms D’Ambrosio said: “Enshrining the SEC in our state’s Constitution will stop the Liberal Party in its tracks, so it can’t destroy Victoria’s state-owned energy.”

Shadow Minister for the SEC, David Davis, said: “The Minister appears to be confused. It was Labor who sold off Victoria’s biggest investment in renewable energy, the SEC’s part-owned Snowy Hydro, for twice the amount they have allocated to their new SEC.

“The reality is the SEC has so far failed to lower electricity prices by a single cent. In fact, since it was announced 12 months ago, electricity prices for Victorian households and businesses have increased by 25 per cent.

“The SEC should stand for ‘Surging Electricity Costs’ as that’s what it is.”
