Second man charged over conspiracy to murder, NSW

A second man has been charged by Criminal Groups Squad detectives over his alleged role in conspiring to murder another man on Sydney’s North Shore earlier this year.

On Saturday 14 August 2021, officers from North Sydney Traffic and Highway Patrol attempted to stop the driver of a Mercedes on Walker Street at North Sydney.

Following a short pursuit, the Mercedes was later located abandoned at Miller Street, Cammeray.

Police were told that the occupants – described as two men in dark-coloured clothing – approached a nearby Toyota Camry and allegedly threatened the 76-year-old male driver with a firearm, before fleeing the area in the Toyota. They were last seen travelling north on Miller Street.

The stolen Mercedes was seized for forensic examination and was later found to contain cloned number plates.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad subsequently established Strike Force Gillwinga to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

So far during the investigation, two men – aged 31 and 19 – have been charged over their alleged roles in the incident and remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, a 26-year-old man was served with a Future Court Attendance Notice (FCAN) for the offence of conspire and agree to murder any person at a correctional centre at Parklea yesterday (Wednesday 23 March 2022).

Police will allege in court the man was involved in organising and directing others in the attempted murder of another man in North Sydney last August.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday 31 March 2022.

Investigations under Strike Force Gillwinga continue.
