Second man charged over murder of Rami Iskander, NSW

A second man’s been charged by Homicide Squad detectives investigating the fatal shooting of another man in Sydney’s south-west earlier this year.

Just before 4am on Saturday 14 May 2022, emergency services responded to reports of a shooting on Knox Street, Belmore.

Upon arrival, a man was located with gunshot wounds. He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, died at the scene.

He has since been formally identified as 23-year-old Rami Iskander.

The matter was initially investigated by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and South West Metropolitan Region under Strike Force Batti.

The investigation subsequently formed part of ongoing inquiries by Taskforce Erebus into several fatal shootings and criminal activities by organised crime networks across Sydney.

As part of ongoing inquiries, a 42-year-old man was arrested and charged over his alleged involvement in the incident in October. He remains before the courts.

About 10.30am yesterday (Wednesday 30 November 2022), a second man, aged 29, was arrested on York Street at Sydney and taken to Day Street Police Station.

He’s since been charged with accessory after the fact to murder and conceal serious indictable offence.

Police will allege in court that the man provided direct assistance to persons involved in the incident following the murder of Mr Iskander.

He was refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court today (Thursday 1 December 2022).

Investigations under Task Force Erebus continue.
