Security Council to Vote on Draft Resolution to Extend Authorization of African Union Transition Mission in Somalia Until 15 August

The Security Council will meet this afternoon to take action on a draft resolution on the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), which was authored by the United Kingdom, the penholder on the Council’s Somalia file. The draft resolution extends the authorization for African Union member states to deploy uniformed personnel in the country to carry out ATMIS’ mandated tasks by three days, until 15 August.
