The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is taking action to protect our emergency service workers attending roadside incidents.
Tasmanian motorists will soon be required to slow down to 40km/h when they see emergency services on the roadside with flashing lights, under new road rules.
The change coming into effect from 1 December 2019 is part of the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s commitment to keep our first responders safe while attending emergency situations.
The launch of a public awareness campaign today – See Red and Blue, Know What To Do – aims to ensure the public is informed of the rule changes before they come into effect.
Motorists will be required by law to slow down when they see the usual red and blue flashing lights and also the magenta lights of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
These new road rules recognise the time-critical nature our first responders deal with during emergency situations and will help reduce the risk of being hit by fast-moving passing vehicles.
The changes taking effect in December mirror similar laws also being implemented across Australia.
