Series of petrol thefts in Melbourne’s south-east

Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance following a series of petrol thefts in Melbourne’s south-east.

Police have been told a man driving a black BMW X5 with stolen plates attended several service stations in Oakleigh, Camberwell, Chadstone, Malvern and St Kilda.

It is believed the driver failed to pay for petrol a number of times worth more than $500 between 1 February and 4 March.

Investigators have released images of a man who may be able to assist with their enquiries.

He is described as 30 to 40-years-old with brown hair, tanned complexion, and medium build.

An image of the vehicle has also been released in the hope someone may recognise it.

It has been described as having a black front grill with red, blue and white stripes, black wheels, dark tint windows and blacked out taillights.

Detectives are also investigating other theft from motor vehicles and a burglary that may be linked.
