Seven juveniles and one adult charged after string of armed robberiesin Sydney CBD, NSW

Eight people have been charged following a string of armed robberies in Sydney’s CBD yesterday.

About 6am on Saturday 12 December 2020, officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command were notified after three armed robberies occurred with 45 minutes across the city.

About 4am a man was approached by a group of people, one allegedly armed with a knife. A male demanded his phone before allegedly hitting him over the head with a bottle.

The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transferred to St Vincent’s Hospital in serious condition.

A second man was travelling on a train from Town Hall to Central when he was allegedly threatened by the same group – one armed with a knife – before his phone was stolen.

A third man had his headphones stolen after being approached by the group at Central Station.

Officers from Operation Barber – a high-visibility policing operation targeting street crime in the CBD – located and arrested seven juveniles and one adult at Redfern Railway Station. They were arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

An 18-year-old female was charged with affray, intimidation (x2), demand money with menaces and steal from person.

A 14-year-old boy was charged with intimidation (x2), affray, armed with intent to cause serious indictable offence and robbery in company causing wounding.

A 16-year-old girl was charged with intimidation (x2), robbery with wounding and steal from person.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with affray and intimidation (x2).

A 13-year-old girl was charged with affray and intimidation (x2).

A 14-year-old boy was charged with affray, intimidation (x2), possess knife in a public place, assault, and robbery with wounding.

A 13-year-old boy was charged with affray and intimidation (x2).

A 17-year-old male was charged with intimidation (x2) and armed with intent to commit serious indictable offence.

They were all refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 13 December 2020).
