Severe thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rainfall, damaging winds and large hail across the southern and central interior of Queensland today.
A severe weather warning is current for south-east Queensland and northeast NSW, with heavy rainfall forecast to develop on Monday and continue during Tuesday.
The severity of the rainfall will be highly dependent on the position of the coastal trough, but widespread showers, periods of rain, and flash flooding are likely over areas still recovering from recent flooding.
Locally intense rainfall is possible and since many catchments are now saturated there will be an increased risk of dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding and landslides during this event.
A Flood Watch is current for catchments across the southern interior and south-east Queensland.
A moderate flood warning is current for the Bokhara River, and there is an initial minor flood warning for the Paroo River.
The Bureau is recommending communities prepare for flood impacts and are encouraged to keep up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings on the Bureau’s website and BOM Weather app, and to follow the advice of emergency services.
