Severe Weather Activation response extended for much of the state

With current rough weather forecast to continue, the Severe Weather warning activated on Friday, December 8 will continue until 9am, Tuesday, December 12.

The activation continues to assist rough sleepers in the following areas:

  • Adelaide Metro
  • Upper Spencer Gulf
  • Copper Coast
  • Clare Valley
  • Murraylands
  • Fleurieu Peninsula
  • Kangaroo Island

In Adelaide the following locations will provide additional support and ccommodation, food and other services to rough sleepers:

  • Baptist Care’s Westcare Centre – Open for overnight accommodation from 1pm. The Westcare Centre is located at 11/19 Millers Ct, Adelaide.
  • Toward Home the Resolve Team – additional outreach support today until 7pm.
  • Hutt St Centre – additional support will be in place today until 4pm. Located at 258 Hutt St, Adelaide.
  • Adelaide North West Homelessness Alliance – assertive outreach will be in place from 5-7pm

Authorities and services are asked to work with regional Specialist Homelessness Services and stakeholders to activate a local response in line with agreed protocols.

Homeless Connect SA will continue to operate 24 hours a day seven days a week. Anyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness is encouraged to contact Homeless Connect SA on 1800 003 308.

Storms, wind and rain pose real risks to the vulnerable rough sleepers in our communities across the state. Stay away from waterways, including riverbanks and even dried up creek beds.

The Severe Weather Activation will help them stay warm and safe and protect their belongings from the weather.
