Severe Weather update – Monday December 14, 7am

A Severe Weather Warning remains in place this morning for damaging winds, abnormally high tides, heavy rainfall and dangerous surf conditions on the Gold Coast.

The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted periods of heavy rain could cause localised flooding with the biggest falls expected in the Hinterland. This could impact low lying areas of the city.

However, ALL residents should remain vigilant as it is a dynamic and changing situation.

The City’s Local Disaster Coordination Centre will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates to the community.

All Gold Coast beaches remain closed today.

Sandbagging stations are open from 6am and we will regularly assess the need for them to remain open.

Waste and Recycling Centres (WRCs) will remain closed until midday.

Residents should:

– Stay away from flooded creeks and roads. If it’s flooded forget it.

– Avoid unnecessary car travel.

– For storm or flood damage call SES on 132 500 and in a life-threatening emergency call 000 (triple zero).
