Sex Crime Squad detectives have charged a school teacher with alleged child abuse offences under Strike Force Trawler.
Strike Force Trawler is an ongoing investigation by State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) into the sexual abuse and exploitation of children facilitated through the internet and related telecommunications devices.
On Thursday 18 June 2026, strike force detectives received a report regarding the detection of child abuse material linked to an account holder in Sydney’s west.
About 2pm on Friday 19 June 2026, detectives executed a search warrant at a school in Auburn, seizing electronic devices that allegedly contained child abuse material.
Police also searched a vehicle nearby where they found a small amount of cannabis.
A 54-year-old man was arrested and taken to Auburn Police Station where he was charged with possess child abuse material, possess child abuse material with intent breach section 474.22 and possess prohibited drug.
He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Local Court 7 on Saturday 20 June 2026, where he was granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday 18 August 2026.
