Shortlisted proponents for Bayswater Station upgrade announced

  • Two proponents shortlisted to design and build the new METRONET Bayswater Station
  • The project will transform Bayswater into a thriving station hub creating local jobs
  • Early works on station upgrade to begin later this year including service relocation
  • Bayswater Station upgrades mark the first stage of the Morley-Ellenbrook Line project
  • Two proponents have been shortlisted for the task of designing and building the Bayswater Station upgrade as part of METRONET, which will generate local jobs and create a vibrant station hub.

Better Bayswater Alliance (Georgiou Group and Lendlease) and Evolve Bayswater Alliance (Coleman Rail and Decmil) have been shortlisted to progress to the competitive bid phase before the contract is awarded in coming months.

The successful bidder will be required to demonstrate their ability to design and construct the station and the new King William Street/Coode Street bridge while minimising impacts to Midland Line operations.

The alliance will also complete track, signalling, civil, drainage, and overhead line works along with building retaining walls, delivering electrical works, communications and control systems, and public spaces.

Other vital project works are already underway, with additional parking spaces being added at Meltham and Ashfield stations to compensate for a reduction in parking at Bayswater, and other forward works will get underway before the end of the year.

The Bayswater Station transformation is the first stage of works for the Morley-Ellenbrook Line.

The Tonkin Highway ‘Gap’ Project is currently out to tender, which will include some works to facilitate linking the Morley-Ellenbrook Line into Bayswater Station.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“We’re now moving into the next stage of procurement for the Bayswater Station upgrade, which will create a major vibrant transport hub, linking two new METRONET lines.

“The new METRONET Bayswater Station will become a major hub of our world-class rail network, with connections to the Forrestfield-Airport Link and Morley-Ellenbrook Line.

“With multiple METRONET projects on track, it’s an incredible time for the public transport industry in WA, as we see our future network constructed.”
