Simple steps toward a sustainable lifestyle

Fresh fruit and veggies at your doorstep, delicious meals on the table, cheaper utility bills, and a satisfied, healthy glow that shows.

Environmental engineer Laura Trotta wants to share with us her ingenious ways to save water, go solar, cut electricity use and swap plastic-wrapped processed food for organically grown grub. And her members-only Self Sufficiency in the Suburbs program is available for free to residents thanks to Wellington Shire Council.

The online club offers step-by-step advice on saving energy, growing food, cutting waste, shopping from eco-friendly suppliers and more.

Expert guests provide tips on topics such as suburban aquaculture and making your garden bee friendly.

Members get immediate access to six easy-to-follow core training modules as well as how-to guides, training videos, recipes, challenges, webinars and access to a thriving Facebook community.

Module one even tells you how to get your partner and kids on board, and how to find the time to do it all.

After the first six weeks, members are given access to archived content – masterclasses, guest experts, interviews and more. Members also get to chat live with Laura Trotta, a former Sale local, in her Facebook forum each week.

Valued at $297, Wellington Shire residents can activate their free membership at bit.ly/SelfSuburbs
