Slight increase in CDBS rebate fees announced by Federal Government

The Federal Government has recently announced a slight increase to the rebate fees in the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (the Schedule), from January 1, 2021.

This represents an average increase of 1.3% for services with the maximum amount available to eligible patients increasing by $13 to a total amount of $1013 over two years. There do not appear to be any changes to the rules governing the scheme nor to the Schedule’s item numbers.

While the announcement of any amount of increase is welcome, rebates remain well below the mean fee charged by dentists. The ADA will continue to advocate to government for the need to index the benefit in line with inflation and to increase the scope of services available.
