Attorney-General Vickie Chapman has thanked Small Business Commissioner John Chapman for his years of service after he advised her that he would not be seeking reappointment.
“For close to seven years Mr Chapman has been an advocate for the small business sector, contributing to important reforms in the industry,” Attorney-General Chapman said.
“This includes changes to the Retail and Commercial Leases Act 1995 and the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 2009.”
The Attorney-General has also recognised his work through the pandemic, with the Commissioner and his team assisting hundreds of South Australian businesses and property owners to resolve disputes over rental payments.
“This is important work which has assisted the State in navigating pandemic induced challenges,” she said.
“Temporary changes helped to protect and safeguard businesses through periods of heightened restrictions, and I commend Mr Chapman for working with our State’s small business community through this time.
“To assist him, the Marshall Liberal Government committed $358,000 in 2020/21 to the Office of the Small Business Commissioner, enabling him to continue to provide mediation of commercial leasing disputes arising under the COVID-19 Emergency Response Act 2020,” she said.
Mr Chapman will finish his role when the current term expires in September this year.
“I wish Mr Chapman well in his future endeavours,” Attorney-General Chapman said.
