Members and players at Briagolong Tennis Club are now benefitting from improved court accessibility and safety upgrades at Briagolong Recreation Reserve thanks to funding from the Andrews Labor Government.
Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria and Sport Danielle Green today officially opened upgrades at Briagolong Tennis Club made possible with a $50,783 grant from the Labor Government through the Latrobe Valley Authority’s Community and Facility Fund.
Briagolong Tennis Club currently has approximately 70 members and are now looking to increase membership with the improvements making the courts more accessible and safer for the local community.
Upgrade works included new shade and seating areas, concrete and pathways, fencing and accessible gates, which will improve disabled access and safety for players and spectators.
Accessibility upgrades will be a huge benefit to the local community and help increase participation, with Briagolong Primary School advising that the improvements will now enable a student using a wheelchair to participate in tennis training activities.
For increased safety, the Club have installed fences with latched gates to the player and spectator areas, which were previously open to the Reserve’s car parking and vehicle access road.
Since 2016, the Labor Government, through the Latrobe Valley Authority’s $20 million Community and Facility Fund has supported more than 180 community projects across Latrobe City, Wellington and Baw Baw shire regions.
