COVID cases in SA

There have been 1,170 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 8,579 active cases in South Australia.

Sadly, SA Health can confirm 12 people, who tested positive for COVID-19, have passed away. The deaths include two women in their 80s, three women in their 90s, one man in his 70s, four men in their 80s, and two men in their 90s. The deaths notified since the last report occurred between 6 August 2022 and 17 August 2022.

There are 240 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including eight people in ICU, with two of those ventilated.

*Due to changes underway within hospital reporting systems, today’s hospitalisation numbers have been collated using an alternative reporting method, which will be in place until later this month. Associated vaccination data is not available.

Due to a reconfiguration of the data, the total number of cases has been readjusted.

Variants

The latest genome sampling has found 1% of samples analysed were BA.2, 7.4% of samples analysed were BA.4 and 90.5% of samples analysed were BA.5 or related variant.

COVID testing

Yesterday, 7,027 people received a PCR test in South Australia, which is a 4.6% decrease on the previous 24 hours. Of the test results returned yesterday, 630 PCR tests were positive, while 540 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.

Vaccination update

Currently 96.2% of eligible South Australians aged 12+ have received their first dose of the vaccine and 94.3% have received their second dose. Boosters have been administered to 74.9% of eligible South Australians and 70.6% of South Australians aged 16+.
