South Australia Covid update as at 6 August 2022

COVID cases in SA

There have been 1,959 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 16,807 active cases in South Australia.

Sadly, SA Health can confirm there have been 13 deaths. The deaths include two women in their 80s, two women in their 90s, three men in their 60s, two men in their 70s, two men in their 80s and two men in their 90s. The deaths notified since the last report occurred between 8 April 2022 and 5 August 2022.

There are 311 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including 10 people in ICU and three of those ventilated. Of those hospitalised, 195 people have received three or more vaccine doses, 99 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 17 have an unknown vaccination status.

Due to a reconfiguration of the data, the total number of cases has been readjusted.

Variants

The latest genome sampling has found 11% of samples analysed were BA.2, 11% of samples analysed were BA.4 and 77.9% of samples analysed were BA.5 or related variant.

COVID testing

Yesterday, 8,038 people received a PCR test in South Australia, which is a 14% decrease on the previous 24 hours. Of the test results returned yesterday, 1,021 PCR tests were positive, while 938 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.
