South Australian Government calls for sustained action to deliver Basin Plan

South Australian Water Minister David Speirs has today congratulated new NSW Water Minister Melinda Pavey on her appointment and urged continued, sustained action from all Basin states to deliver the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

Minister Speirs said he looked forward to working constructively with Minister Pavey and the re-elected NSW government to deliver the agreed plan.

“As a key Basin state, New South Wales is a significant player in the implementation of the plan that will see real water delivered, for the benefit of communities, the environment and the entire basin,” said Minister Speirs.

“There has been much hard work and negotiation over the past twelve months to get us in the position where for the first time, we have a pathway to real progress on achieving delivery of the plan.

“With a real pathway to deliver real outcomes now in place, we must all continue working together for the benefit of our communities who rely on the basin and our natural environment which needs water.

“That’s why there can be no backwards or even sideways steps, we must get on with delivering for our communities who rely on this precious resource.

“I congratulate Minister Pavey on her appointment and look forward to working with her over coming months and years to see the full implementation of the Basin plan.”
