Specialised plumbing training centre opens in Beenleigh, QLD

Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre

The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, Premier of Queensland and Minister for Trade and Melissa McMahon MP, Member for Macalister joined key leaders from across the Plumbing and Fire Protection industries at the official opening of the new Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre (PICAC) Beenleigh campus on Tuesday, 3 December 2019.

Over 150 industry representatives attended the event to commemorate the official opening of the training centre. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk conducted the official opening address and unveiled a commemorative plaque along with key stakeholder representatives from the Plumbing and Pipe Trades Employees Union Queensland, Master Plumbers Association of Queensland and National Fire Industry Association of Australia.

PICAC Beenleigh has been designed to deliver world-class training that showcases the latest advances in water collection, storage and use, heating and cooling systems, safety, new product innovation and sustainability practices to Queensland’s apprentices and qualified industry participants.

PICAC Beenleigh is located in a significant growth corridor between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The new facility will make quality industry training available to more students than before and will ensure that the Queensland economy has a skilled workforce capable of taking advantage of industry innovations and technical advances. PICAC Beenleigh can accommodate 400 – 500 fire protection and plumbing apprentices, 100 mechanical services or HVAC apprentices and 100 pre-apprenticeships trainees.

The Queensland State Government contributed to the development with a $4 million grant and there has been wide support, both financial and in kind from key stakeholders including the City of Logan and a number of local manufacturing and plumbing businesses.

PICAC Beenleigh has a range of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment including in ground drainage and trench shoring training sand pit, three level training tower simulating high rise building levels, confined space training, advanced welding facilities and more.
