A man has been arrested after failing to stop for police while driving at speed across Melbourne’s west last night.
Highway patrol officers were patrolling when they observed a blue Ford Falcon driving erratically on Point Cook Road in Seabrook about 6.20pm.
The vehicle reached alleged speeds of 100km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Officers attempted to intercept the car, but the driver allegedly failed to stop and continued on at speed.
Police followed the car throughout Laverton however terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns.
The Ford continued on before side-swiping a civilian’s vehicle on Palmers Road.
The driver and passenger of the Ford then exited the car and boarded a train at Williams Landing Railway Station.
Police quickly responded and arrested a 19-year-old man and 25-year-old woman, both from Point Cook, at Aircraft Railway Station.
The 19-year-old driver was interviewed and charged with 16 offences including reckless conduct endanger serious injury, dangerous driving while being pursued by police, possess ecstasy and fail to stop on police request.
He was remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
The 25-year-old passenger was released without charge.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.
These arrests form part of Operation Arid, a state-wide road policing operation aimed at keeping the community safe on Victorian roads over the Labour Day long weekend.
Operation Arid will run from 12.01am on Friday 11 March until 11.59pm on Monday 14 March.
