Broncos stars Tyson Gamble, Payne Haas and Jordan Riki joined Minister for Education Grace Grace today at Mabel Park State High School, one of 100 schools hosting pop-up vaccination clinics this weekend.
“Across the state, sporting greats from rugby league, soccer, netball, Australian football, rugby union and many more are on hand to congratulate Queenslanders being vaccinated at schools during the pop-up clinics this weekend,” Minister Grace said.
“Meeting your sporting heroes is just another incentive to get vaccinated at the Super Schools Weekend, so come down and get an autograph as well as your vaccination.
“We hope that any Queenslanders aged 12 and over who have not yet been vaccinated will come forward and get the jab this weekend.
“Every person who gets vaccinated helps decrease the spread of COVID-19, as well as protect their families, friends, and community. There is no reason to delay.”
Brisbane Broncos player Tyson Gamble said he was happy to play a part in encouraging Queenslanders to turn up and get vaccinated at their local schools.
“There’s no point putting it off,” Tyson said.
“Everyone wants to get back to living a normal life and being able to do things like travel and play footy.
“If you’ve got questions about it, speak to your doctor, they can talk you through the reasons and the process for getting the vaccine.”
At schools across the state, athletes from the Brisbane Broncos, Queensland Reds, Gold Coast SUNS and Gold Coast Titans, Brisbane Roar FC, Queensland Firebirds, JCU Townsville Fire and Swimming Australia have got behind the Super Schools Vaccination blitz.
Minister Grace said that the pop-up locations were chosen to target specific areas where vaccination rates needed to increase ahead of the border opening and restrictions for unvaccinated people coming into effect on December 17 or earlier.
“Thank you to each of these school communities for supporting Queensland’s vaccination efforts.”
“Here at Mabel Park, locals are turning up to keep themselves and their families safe.”
“Our schools are the centre of our communities, so head on down and get yourself vaccinated this weekend.”
