STA Finance, Audit and Risk Committee: call for a member representative

Science & Technology Australia is seeking a member representative to join our Finance, Audit and Risk Committee. The committee is responsible for providing high-level guidance and advice to the President and Board of STA in relation to financial management of the organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a committee advising a national Board with high-level exposure to the science and technology sector and to gain governance experience without carrying the time and fiduciary responsibility of a formal Board position.

Chaired by the Treasurer, the Committee reviews and advises the Board and its delegated Executive Committee on financial management and sustainability, controls to prevent and detect fraud and errors, external financial reporting requirements including audits, risk management and mitigation and compliance. It also serves as an avenue for whistle blowing.

Appointment for a member representative is for two years, with eligibility for reappointment up to a total of four years. Committee members are required to participate in a minimum of four committee meetings per year and as required by special circumstance (via video conference).

Candidates wishing to apply to join the Committee should be a member of, or employed by, an STA member organisation and address the following criteria in a statement that is no more than two pages:

Selection Criteria

  • An understanding of NGO structure and responsibilities
  • An understanding of reporting requirements for government grants
  • An interest in supporting science, technology, engineering and mathematics
  • Board or committee experience would be valued but is not essential

Remuneration

This position is not remunerated. Any expenses incurred in meeting committee requirements will be covered by STA.
