State Government donates to Operation Flinders ahead of Charlie Stevens’s funeral

SA Gov

The South Australian Government will donate $100,000 to Operation Flinders in honour of Charlie Stevens.

Charlie Stevens will be farewelled by family, friends and the broader South Australian public at a funeral at the Adelaide Oval this evening.

In lieu of flowers, Charlie’s parents, Emma and Grant Stevens, have asked the public to support Operations Flinders Foundation in their son’s memory.

Operation Flinders works to transform the lives of young people from the age of 13 to 18.

It runs an 8-day program in the Northern Flinders Ranges, where young people trek up to 100km, experience Indigenous culture, abseiling and bushcraft, helping build self-confidence.

The Government’s one-off donation is in addition to its existing funding commitment to the Foundation, worth approximately $500,000 year.

As put by Peter Malinauskas

The passing of Charlie Stevens has deeply affected South Australians, and this contribution is an appropriate way for us to show our support for Grant, Emma and the Stevens family.

Operation Flinders does important work improving the lives of young South Australians, and this is a fitting way to honour Charlie.

I encourage all South Australians to consider contributing to the cause.

As put by Operation Flinders CEO David Wark

We are humbled to be the recipient of this goodwill and have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the public and the South Australian Government.

The Foundation will work closely with the Stevens family to ensure Charlie’s legacy lives on through the hundreds of young people of Operation Flinders for years to come.

We will strive to ensure Charlie’s legacy will be recognised through programs and opportunities which will impact on young people the Stevens family will never meet, which is the ultimate act of generosity.
