State Traffic Hoon Operation

State Traffic Investigations Unit have recently charged 19 individuals and impounded 16 vehicles after three days of action targeting hoon driving behaviour in the Perth metro area.
This operation ran between Tuesday 4 April and Thursday 6 April, utilising staff from across the State Traffic portfolio, including Traffic Motorcycle Group, Traffic Enforcement Group, Breath and Drug Operations and State Traffic Support & Enforcement.
Supt Andrew Wilson says this is a significant number of cases cleared for the State Traffic Investigations Unit, with several dangerous drivers due to face serious offences.
“These drivers allegedly display driving behaviours that are not consistent with the road safety messages the WA Police Force promotes on a regular basis,” he said.
“This nature of offending puts other road users, as well as the offending drivers themselves, at serious risk of injury or death.”
“Hoon driving has no place in our community, especially during the school holiday period, when there is an expected increase in youth and families on our footpaths and roads”
“Members of the community are paramount in operations such as this. The information we receive from the community is of great value, and allows us to track down hoon drivers, and remove them from our roads.”
State Traffic continue to urge the West Australian community to report information to Crime Stoppers via 1800 333 000, report online at crimestopperswa.com.au, or visit the ‘Report a Hoon’ page on the WA Police Force website.
