Statement On Worksafe Chief Executive

  • Minister for Workplace Safety

I have been advised that Clare Amies will be stepping down as chief executive of WorkSafe Victoria later this year.

Ms Amies has led WorkSafe Victoria since 2015, during a period of considerable change. She helped lead moving the headquarters to Geelong, developing and commencing the roll out of its long-term WorkSafe 2030 strategy and preventative programs to make staff health, wellbeing and mental health key priorities for the organisation.

Ms Amies first joined WorkSafe in 2009 and held a number of senior leadership roles before her appointment as chief executive in 2015.

Prior to joining WorkSafe, Ms Amies was chief executive officer of the Western Region Health Centre, a community health centre providing a range of health and support services to Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Ms Amies will take up a new role at the Department of Justice and Community Safety leading work examining regulatory arrangements across the justice portfolios.

On behalf of the Victorian Government, I want to thank Ms Amies for her tireless leadership of WorkSafe as chief executive and in other positions over the past decade. She has held a number of critical roles protecting the health and safety of workers across the state.

She brought a remarkably strong passion and immense understanding of occupational health and safety, and ably led one of our most important community safety regulators during a period of great change.

Recruitment of a new chief executive will commence shortly with Ms Amies to continue in the role until a new appointment is in place.
