Stolen vehicle set alight, police investigate, NSW

A crime scene has been established after a stolen vehicle was found alight in St Johns Park overnight.

About 12.45am (Tuesday 22 January 2019), emergency services were called to Yeronga Close following reports of a car fire.

On arrival police and Fire and Rescue NSW officers located the stolen vehicle well alight.

The fire was extinguished and detectives from Fairfield City Police Area Command have commenced inquiries.

It’s believed the vehicle was involved in a number of robbery offences across Sydney in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, a man was taken by ambulance from an address in Smithfield to Concord Hospital suffering significant burns to his hands.

He remains in a stable condition and has not yet spoken with police. It is not known at this early stage if the two jobs are connected.
