Strand Ephemera will come alive this week with the artworks from local, national and international artists all being installed for the impressive sculpture festival.
The 2019 Strand Ephemera will feature 28 competing artworks vying for the prestigious $10K major prize and highly contested $2K people’s choice and 11 invited artists.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said Strand Ephemera showcases some of the incredible local talent in a beautiful outdoor setting.
“Strand Ephemera is held every two years and encompasses 2.2km of exhibition space that include visually spectacular artworks, workshops and performances,” Cr Hill said.
“It’s fantastic to see the artists hard at work installing their masterpieces and I’m really looking forward to seeing the Strand transformed.”
The 2019 Strand Ephemera has been included as a part of the inaugural North Australian Festival of Arts (NAFA) program and will include regular performances of Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo in the Wonderland Spiegeltent.
Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said Strand Ephemera is always popular with both residents and visitors to the city.
“In previous years, Strand Ephemera has drawn over 150,000 people to the Strand over a period of 10 days,” Cr Doyle said.
“It really is a perfect inclusion to the NAFA program as a showcase of the incredible local talent we have here.
“Townsville has a thriving arts and culture community and Strand Ephemera is a fantastic celebration of this.”
