Elected members of the Hobart City and Glenorchy City Councils met last night to strengthen relationships and explore opportunities for future collaboration.
The meeting at the New Town Rowing Centre was a result of resolutions from both Councils. Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said there was a lot of potential for greater collaboration between the two Councils.
“We are already working together on a range of initiatives such as the Greater Hobart Strategic Partnership, the Northern Suburbs Transit Corridor and the bushfire awareness project, Sparking Conversations, Igniting Action – to name just a few,” Cr Reynolds said.
“So, it makes sense to look at ways to deepen our working relationship.”
Mayor of Glenorchy Bec Thomas, agreed.
“Working together, we can explore ways of improving the financial and environmental sustainability of both Councils and providing services more efficiently to our residents,” Ald Thomas said.
Elected members were conscious of the opportunities to get a better deal from State and Federal Governments by working more closely together to advocate on issues of common interest to residents of the two Cities, noting that together the people they represent make up the lion’s shares of the electorate of Clark.
The meeting outcome was that the Hobart Chief Executive Officer and the Glenorchy General Manager will prepare a report for a future joint meeting of the two Councils at a later date to identify opportunities for greater collaboration and improved services.
