Strengthening cultural ties with Singapore

The Australia-Singapore Arts Group (ASAG) held its fifth meeting and the second Cultural Leaders Forum this week in Melbourne.

The Australia-Singapore Arts Group (ASAG) held its fifth meeting and the second Cultural Leaders Forum this week in Melbourne.

ASAG aims to enhance cultural relations between Singapore and Australia by promoting sustainable artistic and cultural activities. The 2019 Forum builds on the relationships and initiatives established at the inaugural Cultural Leaders Forum held in Adelaide in 2017.

The Australian members of ASAG are:

  • Dr Mat Trinca, Director National Museum of Australia, ASAG co-chair
  • Mr Douglas Gautier AM, CEO and Artistic Director, Adelaide Festival Centre
  • Ms Claire Spencer, CEO, Arts Centre Melbourne
  • Professor Sue Street, AO, Former Executive Director, QUT Precinct, Queensland University of Technology.

As part of the 2019 Forum, over 80 cultural leaders participated in thematic roundtable discussions on the following topics:

  • Digital futures and creative possibilities
  • Cultural precincts in city development
  • Principles for successful cross-cultural exchanges
  • International touring and market development
  • Audience engagement and development
  • Arts education.

The fifth meeting and 2019 Forum supports Australia’s commitment to the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Fields of Arts and Culture between the Government of Australia and the Government of the Republic of Singapore signed on 29 June 2015.
