Police have established a strike force and will deploy high-impact strategies to dismantle street-level criminal groups involved in violent acts in Sydney’s west.
Earlier this month, investigators from North West and South West Metropolitan Regions, and the Police Transport Command, established Strike Force Imbara to investigate the activities of local street-level criminal networks.
Investigators are also being assisted by Strike Force Raptor and have adopted the consequence-based policing model to further disrupt criminal activities and the anti-social and violent behaviour of these groups.
It is a proactive operation and combines intelligence-based investigations with high-visibility policing to target criminal activity and prevent public acts of violence, which includes disrupting potential conflicts that pose a risk to the safety of the community.
Strike Force Imbara’s inception followed an alleged brawl in Parramatta CBD last month, which saw Police Transport Command arrest and charge nine men.
Investigators are conducting inquiries into a number of assaults and other public acts of violence, which are believed to linked.
This includes a large brawl at a hotel at Mt Druitt on Wednesday 10 July 2019, in which two men were stabbed and another was hit by a vehicle.
A 21-year-old man was arrested by investigators last Thursday (25 July 2019), and charged with riot, possess unauthorised pistol, and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.
He was refused bail and appeared at Mt Druitt Local Court, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court next Wednesday (7 August 2019).
Three other men – aged 22, 26, and 29 – have also been charged under Strike Force Imbara for allegedly breaching their bail, while a fifth man, aged 22, was charged with use recording device in court.
Police remind the community that they are the key to ensuring their neighbours are safe and urge anyone who has information that may assist their inquiries to come forward.
