Successes achieved in Tasmania’s Advanced Manufacturing Sector

Madeleine Ogilvie,Minister for Advanced Manufacturing and Defence Industries

Tasmanian advanced manufacturers are some of the best in the world, and the Tasmanian Government is committed to recognising the achievements of these skilled Tasmanian companies and supporting them to grow.

In 2021/22, the Tasmanian Liberal Government has supported a total of 20 Tasmanian companies through our Advanced Manufacturing Accelerating Growth Grants program, which is expected to create close to 100 full time positions.

The most recent round of the Accelerating Growth Grants program, will see 12 local companies share in almost $865,000 in funding, and will assist in creating more than 40 new manufacturing jobs.

At the recent Indo Pacific International Maritime Exposition 2022, Tasmanian companies demonstrated their excellence with CBG Systems winning the National Indo Pacific Innovation Award, Pivot Maritime International receiving a high commendation, and PFG Group as a finalist.

A further success of the Indo Pacific was the launch of PFG’s Sentinel 1100 vessel, which was developed with a $600,000 no interest loan from the Tasmanian Government.

Tasmanian companies attending Indo Pacific participated in more than 120 engagements with senior Defence representatives and defence primes, with many new collaboration opportunities identified.

The Tasmanian Government Advanced Manufacturing and Defence Industries team works hard to support success for our excellent Tasmanian companies – in 2021-22 the team engaged with more than 600 organisations.

Across this same period the Government provided grants to the value of $1.8 million to support businesses to grow and improve their commercial manufacturing outcomes.

Additionally in 2021/22 more than 50 defence supply contracts were awarded to Tasmanian companies, with a value of more than $74.5 million.

The Tasmanian advanced manufacturing industry is one that continues to grow in profile, reputation and skill and it is an industry that all Tasmanians can be truly proud of.
