Sullage advisory for remote communities

Picture of a sullage pump truck

Property owners west of the Hawkesbury River that rely on Council’s sullage pump-out service are being advised that trucks will only be emptying tanks to halfway over the next few days due to the extended closure of North Richmond and Windsor bridges.

The sullage collected from the residential and non-residential properties within these villages is normally disposed at the South Windsor Sewage Treatment Plant. During flooding of the bridges, the sullage collected is pumped into sullage ponds at Blaxland Ridge, which have 7-10 days of capacity.

Council’s storage is now nearing capacity and the bridges are still closed. So Council is taking this proactive step to ensure the service can continue.

Residents and businesses that rely on this service are being urged to take steps to reduce the amount of sullage they produce until access across the bridges can be restored.

Normal service will resume once the bridges reopen and disposal of sullage at South Windsor Sewage Treatment Plant can recommence.
