Summer Nights Of Art, Music, Fashion And Films At NGV

VIC Premier

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is set for an exciting summer of free events and extended opening hours, thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government.

Acting Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Mary-Anne Thomas today announced NGV Summer Nights will kick off on Monday, 3 January – including a program of films, fashion, artist talks, live music and DJs taking place throughout January.

The NGV Summer Nights program will see the gallery remain open until 9:00pm Monday to Thursday, with special events on Friday evenings and extra activities on Sunday afternoons.

The NGV’s Great Hall will be transformed into a drop-by cinema, with screenings inspired by the gallery’s current blockbuster exhibition Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto.

Visitors will also have late-night access to NGV International’s free exhibitions and collection displays including Bark Ladies: Eleven Artists from Yirrkala, a major survey of paintings on bark by eleven Yolngu women.

Special bar and dining experiences, including an alfresco pop-up restaurant in the NGV Garden surrounded by the beautiful pink aquatic art installation, pond[er], will also be part of the program.

NGV Summer Nights is expected to bring tens of thousands of people into Melbourne to dine out at restaurants and stay in CBD hotels – supporting tourism and hospitality jobs across the city.

The Labor Government is backing a blockbuster calendar of events calendar in 2022, which will bring thousands of interstate travellers to Victoria and give people more reasons to visit more often.

As stated by Acting Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Mary-Anne Thomas

“Melbourne is the creative capital of Australia and NGV Summer Nights will showcase the best of our arts, live music and culinary offers.”

As stated by Minister for Creative Industries Danny Pearson
