NSW SES

Over the weekend, areas of NSW saw the impacts of severe storms across many parts.

In the Northern parts of Metropolitan Sydney on Sunday afternoon, December 19, a severe storm passed over the Northern Beaches resulting in significant damage to properties as well as numerous trees and power-lines.

Sadly a fatality occurred when a woman was struck by a tree and two others were injured.

NSW SES have received approximately 600 requests for assistance from this area and response efforts continue into Monday with the assistance for NSW Fire and Rescue and NSW Police.

Storms also damaged other areas of Southern and South Eastern NSW, impacting areas around Albury, Mulwala and Cootamundra. A Big W complex had a ceiling collapse due to the storms in Albury.

In total, NSW SES are responding to over 900 requests for assistance from across storm impacted areas of NSW.

Summer is Storm Season in NSW, with potential more thunderstorms predicted for later this week, there are a few things you can do to prepare now:

Know the warning signs for severe weather and severe thunderstorms and act safely.

If you are out and about driving or walking, seek shelter in a secure location, away from trees and power-lines.

Stay clear of low-lying areas as flash flooding can happen with storms.
