Just picture it… young Oliver smooths out the mud wall on a cubby-house, while Mia taps away on the giant wood marimba making her own melody, and you push your littlest in the pram reading through ‘Red House, Blue House, Green House, Tree House!’
Sunshine Coast Council’s answer to parents’ school holiday wishes is the Summertime Playscape, now on at the Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden in Tanawha through until January 26, 2020.
Environment Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay says this program’s array of activities and interactive installations has something for everyone, young and old alike.
“We invite the whole community to explore, create and connect with nature this summer through this unique holiday program,” Cr McKay said.
“Our staff and volunteers at the Botanic Garden have created a hands-on and nature-full wonderland that invites you to enjoy and get creative in the outdoors.
“Activities kicked off before Christmas, but there’s still a full array of programmed adventures awaiting… from bushwalks and eco-games to cat’s claw weaving and Libraries Storytime.
“For those looking to enjoy the gardens in their own time, there’s the Woven Creature Hunt and Great Botanic Race where explorers can meander through the bushland to find natural treasures.
“The magnificent 82-hectare garden, which showcases native plants, lagoons, rainforests and the much-loved Sculpture Garden, is the perfect host for this family-friendly playscape.
“If you haven’t yet booked in for an activity or checked out the playscape, I encourage all Sunshine Coast residents to come by for a visit this summer.”
Bookings are required for some programmed activities and are available through council’s What’s On website, www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/whatson. Activities vary in price from free to $7.50 per child.
