Sunday serves up sport in all forms

Sunshine Coast Council

The Sunshine Coast will serve up a bumper sporting Sunday with the IRONMAN 70.3, the sold-out NRL match between Storm and North Queensland Cowboys and the Suncorp Super Netball match between our Sunshine Coast Lightning and Brisbane-based Qld Firebirds happening in our region.

Each event is being delivered under a Qld Health approved COVID-safe plan, specific to the venue or site.

The IRONMAN 70.3 event has been significantly modified to comply with public health directions including relocating the transition area from the Brisbane Road Car Park to The Wharf car park.

The new transition site means there are changed traffic conditions to access Parkyn Parade and The Wharf car park.

Between 4.30am and12.30pm on Sunday, the best access to the Mooloolaba Beach Holiday Park, Mooloolaba Spit and Parkyn Parade is via the Wharf Car Park deviation entry via River Esplanade.

The Brisbane Road car park will be open the entire weekend, as will the four hour double storey car park at The Wharf Mooloolaba. Part of the Wharf car park will be closed from 4am, September 12, and will reopen in full after the race, from 5pm, September 13.

As part of the Walan Street Upgrade, Walan Street will be closed to through traffic between Smith and Venning streets. Motorists should follow the alternative route signage.

The best access to Mooloolaba on event day is via Brisbane Road from the Sunshine Motorway.

Whether people are heading to the beach, looking for some retail therapy with friends, sitting down for a bite to eat with the family or popping in to see the race action, Mooloolaba will be a bustling destination.

Businesses are open and COVID-safe measures continue to apply across all of our retail and hospitality precincts.

Everyone has a role to play in COVID hygiene. Anyone who is unwell is advised not to attend events, and if they are experiencing flu like symptoms, they should get tested for COVID-19.

The IRONMAN 70.3, NRL and Suncorp Super Netball offer a great opportunity for the Sunshine Coast to welcome fellow Queenslanders, as participants and spectators of these great events.

Punters can don their favourite jersey and wear code colours with pride this weekend, and take advantage of some venues offering Weekend of Sport ‘super deals’ – https://www.visitsunshinecoast.com/weekend-of-sport.
