Support for Dark Lab’s Transformer project remains firm

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events

Tourism demand drivers are always important and new developments and experiences such as the Dark Lab proposal play a significant role in attracting visitors to our regions; encouraging them to stay longer, spend more, and travel more widely.

The Transformer project is expected to be a flagship tourism experience, and we know that high-quality experiences like this attract visitors, generate economic activity, and support jobs.

The Tasmanian Government remains committed to the Transformer project in the Huon Valley, and we will continue to engage very positively with Dark Lab to realise this game-changing tourism attraction in the south.

Both parties are confident that suitable alternate sites can be identified and secured for the project.

This $9 million initiative has received joint funding from the Federal Coalition Government, the Tasmanian Liberal Government, and MONA’s owner David Walsh.

The Transformer project will generate significant employment and economic benefit to the Huon Valley and to the State, and we look forward to delivering this opportunity for the people of the Huon Valley.
