Support for jobs as local architects appointed for revamp at Harvey Senior High School

  • MCG Architects appointed for $1.2 million refurbishment of Harvey Senior High School cafeteria and specialist classrooms
  • The upgrades will provide state-of-the-art facilities for more than 200 students
  • Works expected to start in February 2021 and create local jobs
  • Bunbury-based firm MCG Architects has been selected to design significant upgrades of specialist classrooms and the student cafeteria at Harvey Senior High School.

    The school first opened in 1958, and the upgrades will be designed to provide students with a modern learning environment in a range of specialist areas while the build will assist job creation in the construction industry.

    The makeover will include refurbishments to the school’s home economics classroom, the visual arts room, and the information technology and textile classrooms.

    In addition, the project brief includes a revamp of the school canteen.

    With the project now in the planning stage, construction is expected to start in February 2021 with completion anticipated January 2022, will which help stimulate the local economy and provide jobs.

    The refurbishments at Harvey Senior High School are part of the McGowan Government’s South West Recovery Plan and the $492.2 million Major School Upgrade package which includes $319.2 million in new funding for upgrades and refurbishments at 63 public schools around Western Australia and will create local jobs.

    As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

    “This much-needed makeover of aging classrooms will provide Harvey secondary students with refreshed and modern learning spaces as well as a brighter, more functional school cafeteria.

    “The refurbishments will allow students to get the most out of their studies in the arts, information technology and home economics and will support local jobs.”

    As stated by Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke:

    “I have long supported the idea that every child deserves a good education, and deserves the tools to make that achievable.

    “I am thrilled Harvey SHS will be receiving an upgrade to deliver specialist classrooms with state-of-the-art equipment to make sure every child has the very best opportunity for success.

    “I am also pleased the architect announced today is local, creating even more jobs for our community.”
